Gary Brar didn’t start in high-rise boardrooms or big-city firms. He started behind the counter of a gas station.

“I wanted something I could build on,” he said. “That first business taught me how to handle operations, manage people, and solve problems fast. It was basic, but it was the beginning.”

That beginning grew into much more. Today, Brar is the founder of Brar Investment Group, a real estate and hospitality firm with properties across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and beyond. With over 20 years of experience, he has built and operated hotels, rental properties, and now entire residential communities.

His portfolio includes branded hotels like Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Hampton Inn & Suites in Regina, plus others in smaller towns like Carlyle, Redvers, and Esterhazy. In recent years, he’s expanded into multifamily housing developments in cities like Winnipeg, Moose Jaw, and Calgary.

But the path from gas station owner to developer wasn’t simple. It took years of learning — and a willingness to go where others wouldn’t.
